Subject: Secret clauses of UAE France defense treaty displayed in le Figaro
french stratege    6/18/2009 10:32:41 AM
According to secret clauses in the new negociated treaty between UAE and France, France is commited to engage any military means at its disposal to protect UAE for an external agression. All military means which includes nuclear weapons. According to a diplomate, the treaty has more constraints than the NATO treaty between its members and link totally France to UAE defense.

Parmenion    Why?   6/18/2009 10:53:12 AM

Why?

Does the the UAE supply France with oil? Or are les généraux just bored and want to fight a war?

Seriously I'd appreciate some follow-up. Is this real or just a paper tiger? What are the motivations?

French Total has major interest in UAE but the main point is to regain influence in the region in the Gulf best managed economy and pressure Iran.
UAE Sheikh bin Zayed Al Nahyan is rather pro France and rather prefer to play France than USA even he can not discard any US support.
Now, it is serious. Our armed forces are rather commited to this treaty.
We have opened a major base here and it is extending.
UAE army has a lot of top line french equipement like 400 Leclerc MBT (the same number than France) and we could say it is almost a prepositonned force.
And clearly going nuclear is an option.
However UAE are hard to negociate with when it comes to money and business issues.

I do not wish to be cynical, but France also had a treaty with Czech in 1939..... and with Poland.

I'm not sure what the elites are cooking up.... how are France's interests inextricably linked to those of UAE?

France had the military might if I recall it just lacked political will.  Oil and Arab oil money are much bigger motivators than humanitarian concerns.

I think its a good idea, so if Iran goes on some adventure and lobs missiles across the Gulf, it won't just be the US and UK doing all of the hard work. It also adds another deterrent against the Russians and Chinese sticking their noses in.

You think Russia, and especially China care about a French presence in the Middle East, or because of this presence they are not going to stick their noses in?

Personally I do think that China and Russia and their armies of ill-equipped teenagers do have something to fear from the French military, backed up of course by the UK and the good old US of A... And I think you would agree with me usajoe.

If China and Russia went for UAE then the US would step in right? Now France is added and with those two the UK and probably some NATO Euro-trash would certainly join a coalition.

I know the Russian and Chinese are arrogant, - but have they given signs of that kind of stupidity? When you have France, the US, the UK,  and likely half of NATO fighting together, then it's time to lay the smack down.

If this treaty is serious, then the UAE is pretty well protected right now.

So do you think that the US wouldn't support the UAE if a third party attacked them? Seriously I'm not trying to provoke an argument, I'd honestly like to know your opinion. Because it seems to me that if the US does support the UAE, and France is now supporting the UAE, that that likely brings in the UK and prehaps other NATO powers as well as part of a coalition.

First of all China and Russia do not have ill equipped teenagers as soldiers. They have two of the largest and most feared armies in the world, number two and three in the world, and  no they do not fear the French military, why would they? stop playing around.

Now here is where I don't know if I should take you seriously. What do you mean by If China and Russia went for the UAE? you mean invade?LOL! why would they do this, it makes no sense. Oh, and please stop with the racism.

Ok, that is just childish.

Look men I don't know why you posted this but if you want to have a serious coversation do some research and stop using words like  "it's time to lay the smack down."
