Subject: America on verge of giving up globo cop job. New military order on the way.

Severe defence cuts due to economic situation (F-22 cut, Obama's new copters maybe gone and more) and Obama's new political approach sends a clear message to the allies- Israel is on its own vs Iran (may start WW3, Netanyahu may not be patient forever), Japan will ally with China as US closes bases around the wrld. NATO in deep trouble asEU is nothing more than a token prescence. I fully expect US world military basing presence to go down by 50% yes folks 50%. Its a new ball game. You are own ur own now.

For the US to pull back on international commitments and "entanglements" is nice to daydream about but the day America stops engaging with the world is the day is ceases to have international significance. Sure it will have a strong military and I don't see anyone challenging that directly in the near term, but to have no significance on the world scene except to be a well armed consumer is not what I think many Americans would want. Other nations turning a blind eye to us and not even willing to give us lip service unless they are trying to sell something would be tough to swallow. Imagine how the British that fought for their empire felt as their empire faded into the sunset and was only a shadow of it's former self.

Nasty,

Wiki Bismark and Morocco. Then wiki World War I and Turkey. Then wiki World War II and Iraq, Libya and Egypt.

Last time I checked Morocco was nowhere near the Middle East.  Besides, German adventures there were designed to piss off the French which is every German's god given birthright.  What is your point about Turkey and the First World War?  It was the British that broke up that empire into absurd Arab "nation states" and they were only able to do so because a nation named the US supported them in this grandios project.

I grant you that the Germans did not have as much to do with screwing up the Middle East as the other European powers at the time but that is only because they arrived late.

The United States has been far more involved in the Middle East since the beginning of the 20th century than Germany or anyone else ever was.

As to the economic crisis -- you guys love to blame the U.S. but if you take a look at it objectively you will find that you had at least as bad case of the stupids as we did. The first pebble that led to the dam collapsing was here but a lot of the big chunks that came down were across the pond and were built entirely in the EU.

Nonsense.  The failure of the financial system lies exclusively with your idiotic Federal Reserve's expansion of the money supply and almost equally idiotic Federal Government policies regarding real estate ownership i.e. HUD, ACORN etc, etc.  Europeans bought some of the bullshit but "Made in the USA" was clearly printed on it.

Oh, BTW, we do thank you for von Braun and his colleagues. The Brits wanted to hang them -- with some good reason -- but, on the whole, overseas employment worked out better for them.

Good reason?  Because they were engineers building contraptions?

Best,

wjr
