Subject: French Soldier's Blog from Afghanistan describes working with US Troops

A cursory search did not show any discussion on this item but my apologies if this has been covered before. I'll post link below of an English translation but the writings of the French soldier differs quite a bit from what some EU posters have repeatedly posted here. h*tp://serendipity.ruwenzori.net/index.php/2008/09/21/american-troops-in-afghanistan-through-the-eyes-of-a-french-omlt-infantryman

It's been my experience. Isn't yours the same? I have been to a lot of different places and I find that much of the intolerance is purely linguistic. If you confront someone with racist views in their own language, politely but firmly, I find any illwill fades away... The 'fear of the other' doesn't linger long when you speak in words he understands, in concepts he understands.

Humor goes a long way too:)

I hope your experience has been the same, gf.

It's certainly been my personal experience, but it is rare to see it articulated in forums such as this.  eg it's anoy an atypical first response as people tend to deep dive and look at other factors and issues first - ie perhaps overcomplicating and overemphasising other vectors.

I've only really had one bad experience with racism, and that was in malaysia when Matahir was in power - he stoked anti-chinese and anti-australian attitudes amongst the political elite which radiated down into govt employee attitudes.  it's a different country now (thank god he is gone, he was an idealogical firestarter )

well mahatir's malaysia is still alive today. because the chinese are so much more dynamic and successful, the only plus the malays have is their numbers and so this translates onto the political scene, thus leading to his pro Malay policies, malay first attitude , ali baba companies, etc.

it also led to increased islamicization, as a tool to isolate the chinese and cement malay power. it is a various dangerous policy, a policy based on hate, since the people don't realize these are just power games and take such prejudices to heart. esp. in a country like malaysia where there has been frequent racial rioting.

BTW, gf, i'd like to go onto a thread and start bashing everyone, just for fun hehe. Just to see what it's like.
