Subject: Has anyone ever tried this one?

Operation Plan Jastay 1. Do a battalion-sized cordon-and-sweep through a given Area of Operations(an unsecured AO obviously) 2. leave after a week or so 3. leave behind large bodies of special ops forces hidden in the AO The point is that a cordon and sweep tends to drive insurgents out of an AO or force them underground. But if it leaves because there are not enough resources to consolidate, the insurgents will simply return, in the manner of townsfolk coming out of their shelters after a tornado passes. The Special Forces will be assigned to ambush the insurgents when they are returning to the AO. Has anything like this ever been done?
