Subject: What do you carry?
RockyMTNClimber    1/4/2008 6:03:10 PM
Many of the Strategy Page posters are LEO and carry weapons both on and off duty. I am long retired from that game but I have retained my CCW ever since. Normally I carry a loaded weapon, either a snub nose hamerless revolver in a Kramer pocket holster OR (rarely) an G19 in a IWB holster, a heavy folding knife on a pocket clip on the weak side, a cell phone, and that is it. My fashion sense just does not allow me to pack a Bat-Belt rig to go about my daily routines in the field or office. My work takes me all over the state of Colorado and frequently into the beast, downtown Denver. I keep a Surefire in my coat pocket at night and a very complete survival pack that two people can live off for a week in my vehicles. I do not carry spare mags or speedloaders but I have recently spoken to some COP-er friends (both active and retired) who are carrying two guns off duty and multiple magazines. Some are preaching 3 mags in possesion at all times. For those of you who carry, EITHER civilian or off duty LEO, What do you carry and why. For the rest what would you carry out and amongst them if you could. Check Six Rocky

Good one!

After four kids, I finally had to just cut her off.

Back to the original topic, I finally finished cleaning out my wallet. I discovered one more item tucked in one of those little back pockets. One of those cards that deaf people sell you on the street, like a sign lanquage cheat sheet. Turns out I havent been signing "I apreciate the lane change with no signal" afterall.

Why do some LEO advise 3 mags?  What is different now?

On duty:
   -  Glock 22 in .40 caliber with a total of forty six rounds
   -  Taurus 85 titanium revolver in .38 caliber with five rounds as a back up
   -   X26 Taser
   -   Sabre pepper spray
   -   Expandable baton
   -   Folding pocket knife in my pocket and another fixed blade attached to my bullet-       proof vest
   -   Plus all the weapons (shotgun, patrol rifle) inside the car

Off duty:
   -   Either a Glock 27 in .40 caliber or my Taurus 85
   -   Folding pocket knife

I generally don't carry extra magazines or speed loaders off duty, although I might depending upon where I'm going or what I'm doing.

In addition to the guns and "toys" I carry, I also rely upon the following weapons:
   -   A sharp mind to perceive possible threats and make quick tactical decisions
   -   Quick wit and the gift of gab to talk my way out of tight spots
   -   A set of fists to fight if necessary
   -   And last, but not least, a set of good legs and feet to run like hell if necessary

Do you guys really carry guns on you all the time? Do you have to get a special permit?

I live near downtown LA and walk regularly and have not packed anything. I am not anti-gun or anything but I have never felt the need to carry one. I can run fast.
