I think SAKO TRG 42/22 is the only one that promises 0,5 MOA out of the box.. If recollection serves 42 is 338 lapua (Or 8,6mm Tarkka-ampujakivääri 2000) if you are in SA-INT.. 8) ) I Havent got the finances to get Sako trg at 1500-2000€ But I have been looking at Remimgton 700 or tikka tactical at 308 fro moose rifle. I own SVT-40 Tokarev sniperversion, and normal Moisin Nagant tri lini rifle. Ms is really accurate, but you have to make som modifications on it to be able to mount a scope. Rifle is from Tula -41.. sthey didnt do scopemounts even then on rifles. And desing itself is from 1891 anyhow...

If you are going to use it for moose look at a CZ550 (I think that is the model) in 9.3x62 mm. Not a great sniper round but one of the great hunting rounds. Mine is an old Husky that i restocked, replaced the trigger, took the three position safety off and put a two position safety on, had the bolt bent down and scoped it. I have way less than $1000 in it and it shoots 1MOA with hand loads. If a person is allowed too, a very accurate rifle can be put together for less than half of what a factory tactical rifle will cost with the same or better accuracy. However the time factor will be much longer. With the adoption of MNC machining and production changes in the manufactor of barrels it is very rare now days to buy a new rifle that can not be made to shoot very well. The main problems are bedding of the action/barrel and the trigger. More trouble is the throating of the barrel. This can cause some problems for a particular bullet, but if the barrel is short throated a reamer can be run in to correct this. Too long of a throat means turning of threads on the barrel and then running a chamber reamer in with the desired throat length. My Husky has a long throat but it is used for hunting so is not a problem for me. Bb

When the contract was given to Remington to supply md 700's to the military it was not because the Winchester lacked accuracy.  The Cooper Arms rifle is an excellent buy for accuracy . The Howa shot the best group of any rifle tested  in  one of Petersons  Publisning magazines.  Think group was .3". The draganov also is no slouch. In one test it shot .75 "with standard ball ammo. The Remington 700's strongest atribute is it's simplicity, making it easy to work on & bed for accuracy. All they were trying to do is make an inexpensive rifle to compete with the md. 70.Due to the 70's external extractor & more machine steps it could not compete in price.
