Subject: A330 crash last year

Airbus is a bureaucratic nightmare that makes really scary aircraft. See: http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,679980,00.html This analysis clearly demonstrates that the computer killed everyone on the aircraft, The hard part is that the pilots could do nothing as they could not operate the aircraft without it. This could not happen on Boeing aircraft -- yes, the sensors could lie to you but you can still fly a 777 by "seat" feel without the computer.

There are no manual controls on the 777. It is completely fly by wire. The controls may be the traditional yoke rather than a sidestick, but there are no mechanical linkages. All controls pass though the central computers.

The fly-by-wire system also incorporates flight envelope protection, a system which guides pilot inputs within a computer-calculated framework of operating parameters, acting to prevent stalls and overly stressful manoeuvres. This system can be overridden by the pilot in command if deemed necessary. However, if the computer itself crashes, as in the case of the Airbus, then the crew will be in the same situation as the Airbus crew.

No sir, this is not the case. The 777 is fly by wire but the pilot can turn off the computer and whatever control the computer has is ended and the pilots can control the aircraft. This is a critical design feature of Boeing aircraft.

Indeed, if you read the article posted you will see this referred to.
