I have always wondered about Israel. If there were no political factors would IAF have kept using Mirages and, later, Rafales, or would they have switched to American fighters nevertheless ?

I do not think France can give money to Israel to help pay for French fighters like America does. Maybe if the French stopped contributing to the Palestinian terrorists and instead to Israel, would they get deals.

4 years to finalize the deal!? By that time the tech will have evolved to make the deal moot. The French are selling Rafales when they should focus on 5th gen technology and how to sell it.

That is correct Nuke, as far as I know, American military aid to Israel must be spent in America. Even Israeli defense industries have hard time competing with that sometimes. However, if it was pure military and technical decision, would Israel have stayed with Mirage family ? Or would have they switched to Phantoms and Skyhawks anyway, as they did ?

It took five years longer than it should have taken. No cheers. But finally Rafale is here, thank God.
