Subject: Navy Scuba Gear?
johnboy    10/21/2011 9:50:25 AM
So here is a practical question about US Navy scuba diving gear. I know where to find the list of scuba equipment approved for use with the US Navy (and Marines). However, I also know that just because a piece of gear was approved for Navy use doesn't mean that the SEALs or the Navy diving program bought any.

I apologize for the re-postings - I keep forgetting that the forum software is glitchy and puts the post up, despite the runtime error

Anyway, take the Mares Abyss Navy 22 regulator.... The Navy approved the regulator earlier this year, but does that mean anyone actually bought the thing?

If it was only approved this year, then it is unlikely that anyone but SOCOM or the SEALS could aquire units before 2013, the 2012 budget requests should already have been submitted.

You can probably find the budget authorization for 2009 on line and many pieces of the equipment are likely to be listed as line items.  Yes, Congress micromanages it that much.
