Subject: Logistics a new Command

I think that it is time to create a new logistics command with its own money to purchase the equipment and supplies to create all land, sea and air bridges used to support and supply the army, navy and air force. So often you here that young me talk tactics and old me talk logistics but I find that no one wants to pay for or make logistics happen until we are caught without anything to make war with. So I think it is time to empower the new logistics command and give them a lot of money. First for the Air Bridge to buy at least 1000 c-17's armed and armored with new capabilities to land on dirt landing strips and a mandate to do so! Second for the Land Bridge it is time to created a new long haul force of at least 5000 new armored, and armed HEMTT trucks and trailers. Third for the Sea Bridge we will need a combination of at least 100 heavy lift ships to carry our heavy lift assets into war along with 3 fast lift ships of the HSV-2 swift class per brigade of army to carry them into battle and then to support them. If we do not get our Air, Land and Sea bridges built then not only will wars always cost far more than they need to but we will not have the ability to win quickly or to sustain a hard battle. As the world becomes more populated there is going to be less and less room for staging for war and we will have to rely on our bridges to supply everything. We in the US need to swallow the expense and start building today for the wars of tomorrow will be fought against foes who have armor and guns and missiles and gps and fighters and you name it they will have it but they do not have and will not have Air, Land and Sea bridges to support themselves and this is where we can win.

I don't know if the numbers your talking about are realistic, but the idea of a logistic command is good idea or better yet add a chief of logistics to the JCS. Logistics are alway going to come in second to the combat forces of the Air Force and Navy. A seperate Chief of logistics would be a better advocate for resources rather than leaving it to the individual services. The US could develop a more unified logistical stratey. It might also advance the cause of the more unconventional transport ideas like heavy lift airship/hybirds and WIG aircraft that would never get pass the development stage because there would always be a fighter plane or aircraft carrier ahead of it on the individual service's wish-list.
