"But I'm sure to have read that the Trident missiles actually on board of Vanguard SSBN’s were built AND ARE MAINTAINED in the US. They may actually be boarded on an US SSBN after a maintenance cycle, while a Trident II on board a Vanguard may have armed a Ohio before that, because they are interchangeable." Yes I am well aware of the interchangeable agreements that were brokered when then the Trident Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Program was conceived. BAE Systems Applied Technologies was involved in continued joint support contracts as well as the joint D&M of the missiles as part of the agreements, the US partner was Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space Division in California, BAE was also involved in continuous implementation of interface control programs and performing special technical investigations such as the following: 1. modify and update system test procedures and plan for and participate in Strategic Weapon System testing during submarine overhaul, refit and backfit; 2. perform configuration management and alteration control via documentation, drawings and technical manuals; 3. provide logistics, engineering and material control support; 4. provide planning and monitoring support in ensuring compliance with the U.S. Navy's portion of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START); and 5. provide maintenance support data system installation and support for the Strategic Weapon System, including materials. In regards to maintenance, again joint agreements were signed in regards to Trident which pretty much mirrored those of the previous Polaris/ Chevalane agreements, the US Trident maintenance and deployment facility is at Kings Bay in Georgia and the UK’s is at Royal Naval Armament Depot [RNAD] at Coulport in the Clyde, close to the Naval Base at Faslane which is home to the Vanguard SSBN fleet. This means that either nations SSBN’s are loaded and removed with Trident SLBM’s at either facility as part of a mutual agreement and each facility also maintains and stores units and is home to reprocessing facilities as part of a joint agreement so no nation is actually at the mercy of another in any respect. I think the rest has been covered.
