I suddenly found this site. I am corncened with the destiny of my city, China and the world. I am a peace-lover. I would like to see cooperation between US and China. I don't support invading Taiwan. But I don't want my country be cut into pieces. (ha, sorry that this post doesn't relate to nuclear weapon

LCM, I'll assume that you aren't a "troll" like JROTCKid. I think you are seeing more and more cooperation between China and the US. It is in neither nations interest to go to war. The issue of Taiwan requires time. At this point in time, Taiwan sees that it is not part of mainland china, in the long term, maybe that means that Taiwan, if it is to return to China as a willing participant, needs to retain ssome kind of relative independence. On the surface, maybe that means it is looking at an identity that is like what Hong Kong enjoys. A separate autonomous state. Forcing Taiwan to "return" will just result in grief. The Taiwanese would not sit idly by but respond with what they saw as approp force, China would respond and end up being seen as a pariah state, It would end up going through the same caution and resentment that some asian nations still hold towards Japan. A war helps no one - least of all china

Hi! I love Hong Kong and have gone there for 36 years. I was married there and I share your concerns. I run a web discussion group on China and Asia and many members are ex Hong Kong Chinese, or married to them. Unfortunately it is not apparent that CCP will reform. And there is no mechanism to replace China's disfunctional governance institutions. Chinese history is not a good context either. Odds are there is a time of troubles ahead, and China will break up, at least for a while. The best way to avoid that would be a KMT like decision to reform by CCP - but do not hold your breath.

The best thing you can do for China is to stand up for your rights and vote for the democratic party. Don't raise a hand to Beijing, just let your voice be heard and don't let them silence it. It is the CCP that Taiwan opposes, not China. Taiwan knows that "one country two systems" is a lie and that is what is drawing them towards independence.
