''In order for spaced armor to be effective against shaped charge warheads it would have to be "hollow", but it would then end up being so thick (we're talking needing 20, 30, 40 cm of space, maybe more against modern dual/tandem warheads'' The extra front-armor on the leo2A5/A6 is about 1 meter (1000MM) i think,so this IS posible, but i didn't say the extra armor is just about 10MM-20MM thick, thinks that ive ''heard'' is that there are all kind of steel reinforcements inside (finally ive found a good word for it) Steel reinforcements that can send the penetrator to another direction, but the last im not sure about. And remember that im not Canadian or American so to explain ill use some other words that sounds strange to you, because its not my home-language :>)

a metre thick? given the diemensions of a Leo that gives approximately room for 1 very small(about 8 years old i guess) crew member to fight a MBT with a crew of 1 8Year Old is asking a lot

The MAIN-armor behind the extra A5 armor is about 800MM thick, the hallow (not totally hallow) armor is about 900MM thick or better sayed; long.

mike_golf is very close with his conjecture about the add on armour. It is layered, for sure. The materials are what is secret. Jeffery, what are you talking about? How do you remove armour from a turret? We are talking about the add on armour that is applied to the front and sides of the Leo 2 turret on the Leo2A5/A6 versions. The same armour that is available to upgrade older models of the Leo2. Built by the IBD, the same manufacturer that offers add on armour packages to dozens of AFV's.

Jeffrey, see if you can get in to the second European Protection Conference. It is on 23-25 March. NH Leeuwenhorst Conference Hotel, Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands. I have no idea if it is open to the public.
