I wonder what the current survival rate is in North Korea.

Before 1990 many communist states traded goods with each other rather than with the West. It was because of political reasons. Those with developed industry were able to export their products. However, after 1990 the markets became open and industries in former communist states were unable to compete with those in leading industrial nations. The industries of communist states were mostly obsolete and inefficient. Their products were not competitive any more. That is most likely the case with industry in North Korea.
