Actually, I have read several articles about Air Force working to develop an aircraft similar to Super Tucano, to replace A-10 in some roles (CAS, COIN). The program is called OA-X. Should result in turboprop aircraft with significantly longer endurance and lower price. Some articles hint that Air Force is, in fact, still impressed with old A1-D Skyraider. According to some articles, even a modern version of OV-10 Bronco is possible.

Talk about 'Cult of the Gun'. This is a whole lot of hoohaw from the A-10 fanboy camp. CAS is a mission not an airplane, the 'AF doesn't like the A-10' narrative is a myth, and the A-10 was designed for a circa-1966 Southeast Asia environment that was considered 'low threat'. The author needs to put a patch on his/her bleeding heart and do serious research. See: elementsofpower.blogspot.com/2011/07/debunking-close-air-support-myths-part.html and go to source documents.
