http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&ncid=703&e=6&u=/ap/20050420/ap_on_go_pr_wh/joint_chiefs_chairman It looks like a Marine is going to be appointed Chairman of the JCS. I did not think this would happen but Marines have been grabbing some key command and staff positions under the Bush administration like the top Command slot in Europe (General Jones) and a Mairen Officer had actual command of the SHips in an Amphibious Ready Group.

This guy is a great selection. We are living in a world where most battles will not be in blue, either in the sky or in the sea. Also glad to see he was a rifle platoon leader in Vietnam, so he has some actual non desk job experience. His #2 is going to be a sub sailor, that too could be interesting, particularly he did some development work with them.

It was in the paper this morning that he keeps a photo on his desk of the first Marine to die under his command, in (I think) 1968 in Vietnam... a good sign he won't be a political weasel.
