Subject: The Few, The Proud, The Overqualified
007    9/8/2004 1:00:12 AM
A bit of a curve ball. I am presently engaged in a business enterprise. In six months time, at current estimates, I expect to reap a very generous ROI.....I am the owner of this business, and yes it is legal. I intend to make use of a part of this ROI to give myself what I could probably not get by the conventional route...that is, I intend to hire a handfull of ex-marines to provide me with a privately tailored marine training. Not for mercenary purposes, and not so I can set up or be a part of a PMC...but for the fulfillment of my own dreams. I have been considering joing the armed forces since my teens. From the beginning when I considered being an Air Force Fighter Pilot to being an Airborne Ranger to being a SEAL, even considering pre-9/11 joining the French Foreign Legion. Now almost 30, and with a variety of responsiblities that restrict my time and actions, there is NO WAY that I will be able to be a full-time soldier nor would I likely qualify, do to my hypoglycemia and lack of high school credentials, etc.. Most recently I was looking into the Marines...and though they have never been at the forefront of my mind, mostly do to my interest in specops, I did some reading here and there and was happy to learn that Marine Force Recon has very high standing and seems to be relatively equal to the Green Berrets-SEALS-Legion...and with a reserve option in the Marines, which was also a surprise....I probably could not qualify without some political schenanigans, which I could but am unlikely to exercise, so that leaves me with the one other option I realized this very day. My inquiry here is one of, where do I get started in finding and evaluating potential trainers....what kind of people do I need. What kind of training facilities, and equipment do I need, keeping in mind that my goal is to achieve training that is equal or superior to the best Marine Force Recon has to offer in the present tense...? Naturally I would be in a position to do the 12 consequtive weeks of basic training, but after that it would have to be adjustable..perhaps partial day training and full weekends..that kind of thing...as far as completeness of training that I would like to achieve within 4-5 years on a part time schedule. As far as locale....it can be anywhere in the world for basic or special training periods and war gaming. Otherwise, I will be restricted to the US, in the Northwest (near my residence/work) for my day-to-day, and week-to=week training. Equipment is no problem, I will be able to drop down at least 25 mill towards that, and naturally I will find people perhaps with an interest in security type work for my company who are willing to go through training with me, as part of a qualifier...so that it is a true boot camp atmosphere...I could see this with as many as 50 people, so there would be teams to compete with and run war games against.... It's basically a private marine corps school......and if our infinitely wise fearless leader happens to get us into another world war...should he be re-elected, and if it happens as I have heard (rumors)..that the draft may be reinstated, with adjustments of age up to 34, then having some pretraining certainly would do me a helluva lot of good.......no matter how you slice it. If anyone would like to offer suggestions, I would be interested in hearing from Marines/Family and SpecOps people who are in the know.

Resident Aliens are allower to join the US military. However you should be advised that any time deployed outside of the US will not count toward your residence requirement. Unfortunatly I've seen way too many Marines get snagged that way. It doesn't count against it but it doesn't count for it either. Like being US. Doesn't count against your contract, so you have to make that time up. Not a good analogy, but the best I could think of. So if you go on a med/west pac/UDP it adds 6 more months you have to be in the US. Before you make the argument that a naval ship or a military instilation overseas is US territory. It is, I know it, You know it, the SJA knows it INS doesn't care. I have personal experence with my wife. The 3 years in Okinawa when we had a dependant tour set her back 3 years. As a SNCO I had the Col from SJA and the div CG voice theiropinoin with the INS office. Their answer was, shes not a US citizen, we can have her deported. I'm sure both of you know they are not the most civil government agency. I could tell horror stories about the repurcussions of me going off in the INS office.

Sam, El Presidente put out an Executive Order saying all service members who were active duty on or after 9/11/01 and honorably discharged get to apply immediately. Basically told INS(now BCIS) to go suck a lemon. I also recall hearing that anybody KIA/WIA in OIF/OEF gets citizenship status immediately. They can say what they like about his administration but it's things like that that make me believe our CinC "gets it" and isn't afraid to swing the stick when he needs to. If I ever make it to the Gator navy, I'll be a surface warfare guy...I'll want to shoot myself. And don't worry about the ribbing...Navy officer candidates get a lot of training done by Marines. I understand it's to prevent us from ever shafting the Marines like we did on Guadalcanal. Honestly I've built up a tighter sense of camaraderie with some Marines than I have with some of the Navy guys...the quality of the Marine selection process really shows around here.

USN-Mid - If I may ask, where are you going to school?

JCT, I would like to. Unfortunately, I also enjoy my anonymity here a bit too much. ;) In hindsight, I really should have picked a less revealing userID, but literary creativity has never been my strong suit.

>>If I ever make it to the Gator navy, I'll be a surface warfare guy...I'll want to shoot myself. << Oh contrare, Every gator boat has at least a Air Dept with an En and JG. Gator XOs are from the air side. And a LHD is for those skippers that didn't get a shot at CV XO. You may be seeing more of the green machine than you think!

First a note - I never served, and those in my family who did were Army, so I'm looking at this as an outsider. It seems to me that this guy could have all the training in the world and miss what my high school teachers (a good while ago) taught us instead of history, biology and driver's ed: If you're USMC, you're part of a community because everyone else has made the grade, either with you, before your or after, and did it together with others. That ethos - knowing absolutely that the people on either side of you have your back - can't be gotten without everyone being molded together. 15 year old kid or not, the guy who started this never seemed to show that he understood anything about being 'Fi'- faithful - and how it is instilled/brought out...

I'm just glad that "007" seems to have been scared off...

He just didn't seem to understand (and I'm not trying to be tactful) that their is NO F'ING WAY he could become as skilled as a Force Recon operator or a SEAL! (or even a Ranger for that matter)

He just can't...He's way to old and out of shape...
Some people....

Anyways, I'm done.

I am a ex-marine who would liked boot camp so much that I would go through it again.  If you are for real at all and plan on getting started on it soon let me go through it with you.  I wasn't a Private Pile off of full metal jacket or anything, but I wouldn't make you look bad either.  I have been out for a while and I wish I could at least go through the training again.  I have dreams about it.  I love a challenge.  If I were you I would go all the way with it.  I would have a basic, MCT, and Special Recon training Camp.  I would also be willing to try for the special training if you decide to have a camp for that too.  That I have never done before.  Marine Basic alone is very demanding and pushing you to a level that you have never been on.  It is a expierence worth trying.  Let me know if you continue to persue this idea of fufilling one of your dreams.  Take care.
