I dont know if the reorg. has been conpleted, or changed again. There were five for several decades. One for each active service divsion (1 2 3) and two in the reserves (4th & 8th). At one point the plan was to eleminate one reserve & one active service battalion, but I'm not current on this. Check the next issue of the Gazette on this. The USMC was converting to the M1 when Desert Storm occured. The first battalion on the ground in Saudi was equiped with M60s from the MPS stock at Diego Garcia. The conversion may have been completed by 1993 (?)

USMC currently has 2 active and 2 reserve tank battalions each with about 58 tanks. Throw in another 58 or so for the prepo sets and those used for training and for attrition reserves and they proably have about 300 or so.
