I agree that this is perfect chart, See today india second highest militray mens ,in gorila training india is the guru of the world. I think usa people understand in vietnam war they suffered lot. Even usa having god technology they not fight in ground war. Indians people are very intellegent in today world, doctors, software engineer or anything indian control everywhere we dont war if all indians are come to our home simply usa will gone'''. See every country having own power
no time is: China, india, in old time: Germany,Japan and england. But onething is unhappy indians political peoples  are very bad that is the reason india not in first place.

shri,

Whether you like it or not, English is the medium of discussion here: Atleast try to write sentences that make sense in English. Your post just drops enough catch-words to flame, but doesn't carry an ounce of reality. India is powerful enough in its own way not to need you to lie and distort reality in its praise. That is if you care about India and its image. If you are just waging a "gorila war" on the Internet, then you are not very new or enterprising at all - we have already had the likes of "Jai Hind", "BJP" etc. on this board.

you should first give your definition of "powerful".

is it economical power? see the list of countries GDP :

1 USA
2 Japan
3 Germany
4 China
5 UK
6 France
7 Italy
8 Canada
9 Spain
10 Brazil

Is it by military power? Nukes (quality, quantity) come into account, as the ultimate weapon :

1 USA
2 Russia
3 France
4 UK
5 China
6 Israel
7 India
8 Pakistan

Is it diplomatic power? influence in the world (UN, NATO, population etc...) is more tricky to classify. USA number 1, Russia number 2, other countries are more regional powers (including France and Uk which don't have a lot of influence in Asia for example)

hi, Hound of Hello i agree with your list.

But swap korea's position to that of number seven. South korea has a very good tank and is definately better equiped than all those i put after it. much better euipeed than canadian army or Japans "SELF DEFENSE FORCE" definately beter than indias second class baggage train. EVn if S.Korea doesnt have the population, it has a fiar one and if definatley better equpped than those others and is always ready on a warfooting with the north.

India, Pakistan and North Korea all have nuclear weapons, besides the Five. In a hypothetical situation, if push comes to shove - that represents real power. You can quibble all about the reality of the situation, quality, training whatever... but all the power of your army is focused on 250 km of front.

Too many factors. Education, equipment, training, political freewill, blah blah blah (you name it!) But as about all of such threads always end up with patriotic and disillusioned or the more sensible, realistic (but still patriotic) people, it's never gonna come to an end but what do you guys say about Gurkhas?

Besides, infantry-wise there is the US Army black berets, the green berets, the Delta Force, the Navy SEALs, the Marines and then over at Russia you have the conscripts, regulars, Spetsnaz and so on. Rather than use their respective countries, using the branch itself is a more accurate measure. Every army does have its best but also have its worst (:

Turkey ahead of India? Give me a freaking break kane, you are so biased it's sickening. Turkey is probably around 12th or so really. You always argue that Turkey is better than said country, because of some ancient history bullshit. Today is today, and Ataturk cannot come back from the grave and lead you off to war anymore. Honestly, if the Germans or French (as you mentioned) came to town and started dropping precision bombing, it would be over quick. I know that sounds mean, but you greatly overestimate your countries military prowess.

do not forget turkey the warrior.brazil, pakistan is not stronger than us.And india, china, england, france, germany can not defeat us by themself.they need help as they did in history.actually that wasn't enough we beat them.
I don't like having to point this out but you didn't beat them. That is why you are Turkey and not the Ottoman Empire.

Cheers.

Black Berets? What the hell? You mean the 75th Rangers?
"Green Berets" = Army SF.

"Delta Force" = CAG or SFOD-D.

Marines are not a special operations force. They have MARSOC, but alone they are a medium infantry force with a amphibious focus.

Sorry, your post just jumped out to me as highly uneducated.

Black berets are standard issued to all US Army personnel. I'm not referring to the 75th. They wear tan. I'm sorry if it's "highly uneducated" to you but perhaps I could have phrased it in a better way as perhaps I have considered the entire US Army as an infantry arm including its special forces thus my mistake, dear Sire. But I believe this topic is about the top ten most powerful nations and not special forces along? I'd made my point on how such topics are rather, well, flawed in my POV.

I'm a Singaporean. Doesn't mean that I'm sure to say that 300,000 conscripts can take over Johore in less than 4 days and hold it without American help, in the form of a CBG. Our pre-emptive will be justified on the means of open hostilities that put both nations on the brink of war but what will the world opinion be? What will America be like, without EU or anyone supporting it? No more lead coated toys from PRC but certainly there are things you can't do without! Thus when you want to consider the most powerful nations on Earth, people with different POVs will always argue because their perspective differs. So wassapoint?

Hey,
Much as I enjoyed the discussion (The list), the list I feel is immaterial given todays realities.Wars will no longer be decided on plain battle grounds but will(and I hope not) be fought in our backyards. The victor will not be the one with the most firepower, but the one with the least moral fibre.Civilized trained men fight for causes and not just to obliterate the enemy and all his kin.The most powerful list will then read like the list of most wanted terrorist outfits and rogue nations.I ask you all then to exclude India from either lists. Dispite what some our politicians would like to project my country as, we are at heart a peace loving nation, we have not invaded any neighbouring nation, only protected our soverignty from time to time. The young in this country(I presume to speak for them), want peace with our neighbours(two in particular-care to guess).
BHUTAN if any of you have heard measures its GDP in terms of a GROSS HAPPINESS PRODUCT.Would any of you care to list the top ten countries in terms of GHP.(hope India makes it there)
