the germans were fearful of the reds terrible retribution.raping,pillaging etc. not their fighting prowess,discipline,tactics etc. the most feared modern army of today is the British army.i choose them rather than the u.s,because man for man they are the best army in the world,with the. The german army of world war 2 had outstanding equipment much like the u.s and u.k,but the german troops were highly trained,disciplined troops.this is where u.k troops have the edge over their american counterparts.

Advocate Of REason :Speaking as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, I'm unsure where you are obtaining your information from, but not only is most of it incorrect, but just fiction. I will say that Canada's small army is by no means feared or intimidating, but the part where you are wrong is that Canadian soldiers are some of best trained soldiers in the world, and they measure this by many factors including the ability to be cross trained to be able to work with the armies of other nations, effectively. We may not have 100% up to date hardware, but if you look back to both world wars, Canada did indeed have a rather weak army to begin with, but then both times went on to boast an army of aprox. 1 million men, and the best navy in the world. We may come across as passive and peace loving, but we have proved in the past that by God, we will not shy away from combat if the cause is just.

As a member of the United States Navy, I can confirm the statement that the Canadian soldiers are among the best trained soldiers in the world. However, I would have to say that the American, British & Israelli militaries are the most feared on earth.

Read my post again peple i never said that canadian troops were poorly trained, in fact i agree that they are superbly trained because im friends with a bunch. I merely said that the crappy and obsolete equipment issued to canadian soldiers hampers their chances in battle.

I admit saying saying that i would only side with canada against luxenburg was an exageration. My info i obtain from members of canadas armed forces, and my info on the unreliability of the c-7 is obtained first hand(i shot it and it jammed 3 times in a single clip)

The Wehrmacht -- not for its fighting skills but for what followed in its wake (the SS, the Einsatz, the Gestopo, and the death camps. I think it is interesting that no one has mentioned the American military, although there is not a country or an army on the planet it couldn't destroy -- with or without nuclear weapons. The fact that the United States military is not feared is that few believe the American military of today would wage war the way the American military of World War II did. I think it is worth reflecting on why today's military does not immediately come to mind when the question of most feared army is on the table. It is also worth contemplating whether it would come to mind if the question were "What is the most respected modern army?"

If you read my previous post, I did mention the American military. No disrespect to anyone, but I think that it goes without saying that the United States is, by far, the strongest military this world has ever seen. I think that this post is attempting to recognize the 2nd most potent force on earth. If not, their fooling themselves.

Yes, the US army is the most powerful in the world and in a full scale head to head war wthe the help of the Navy and Air FOrce it will almost certainly win the field battle, but it is a one trick pony. Ask it to fight an asymmetrical war and it struggles. Thats why the arabs don't really fear the Americans; they know they can't defeat them in open battle but think that the Americans will give uppp when they lose too many casualties from guerilla and seak tactics. That may have been true once, but I don't think that this it is true at present. Unfortunately, the arabs (and probably others too) don't fear the Americans as they should. This is why it is imperative that the US stays the course and doesn't chicken out of Iraq.
