>>I would fear one army today--the Indian army. It has manpower, training, equipment, language skills, multi-terrain experience, and raw courage and tactics. The rest of the world is simply not upto Indian standards even Israel or US. << Ladies and gentlemen, sanity has left the building.

There are several schools in India that train US army for jungle warfare, I did not say that the Indian airforce or Navy was that good--but the Army is, oddly enough--just like my math is better than urs. There are somethings Indians are inherently and historically good at --1 is math, 2nd is logic and programming, 3rd is ground warfare plus they have a grand naval tradition-all in all set to be the next aggressive capi power on the block, we may live to see it. They are no longer starving or living in a shell as years ago. See some of the current terrains from Jungles of east India to the Siachen glacier, 20,000 feet to deserts of Thar, to the artileery experience with the Bofors in Kargill (1999), to tank warfare in 1971. Oh well the world is full of these surprises. Frankly armies like US & IDF are overrated and have routinely fought undermanned or undertrained or underequipped armies, its just a plain fact. Look at our initial performance agains Japan and Israels performance against trained armies(they had to threaten nukes).

Well, you're welcome to use your racist-tinged assessment of "Indian" attributes, coupled with your grossly over-generalized and unsubstantiated analysis of the IDF and U.S. armed forces to over-reach your conclusions. Nothing can stop that. However, let us hope that the Indian Armed Forces doesn't subscribe to ever-fragile assertions as a point of fact. Battle is an interesting medium for challenging assumptions. American forces embrace the notion of "lessons learned" as an intregal component of our war-fighting doctrinal development. I fear, however, that much has missed you, based upon this extrodinary comment- "Frankly armies like US & IDF are overrated and have routinely fought undermanned or undertrained or underequipped armies, its just a plain fact. Look at our initial performance agains Japan and Israels performance against trained armies(they had to threaten nukes)." Do you routinely rely on such logic in your daily pursuit of a living? Herc, you're certainly welcome to amplify on these comments, should you care. I must warn you, though, it appears you might be wearing a bulls-eye for ridicule (yet again), however warranted. I doubt that any reasonable board-poster would question the generally high to very high quality of both the Indian Army, and the human material upon whom they rely. To mis-use the IDF and U.S. Armed Forces as part of your entertaining leap of logic may require a more sober revisit to your history books, however. "

Herc the Merc    To Horsesoldier---a must read on Indian wars and empires start from several 1000 BC--read   8/5/2006 1:58:52 PM
Ramayana & Mahabharata--historical mythologies--then follow up till date--Indians have always been at some kind of war...mostly infantry type. Please read up on the number of times India has gone to war internally and externally, the current Indian army is an amalgam of these experiences, they also fended of Alexander, fought Mongols, British, French, Japanese, and numerous bloody wars internally-hence emerged Buddhism. Now crosstrained with US, IDF, Russia, UK. Read guerrilla wars of Shivaji--look at the composition of the army--Gurkhas, sikhs, jats its like European army under one flag. Just be glad they haven't learnt how to design a fighter jet yet---because when they get the Raptor and a sub (Nooklar) they will invade the world. Sounds crazy but historically contrary to the myth that India is a peaceful country it has no qualms taking to arms to achieve its goals---just so far they could ride a horse only so far.

Nothing racist---Indians have inherently a strong education system for math--they weren't genetically born as calculus experts and their infantry experience is a combination of 1000s of years of combat on foot. No DNA theory here.

i was reading recently about a marine who was underimpressed by the ghurkas he saw. figured he would put it to the test by sneaking up on one doing sentry duty. the ghurka was walking post and the marine jumped out and grabbed him up in a bear hug from behind figuring i guess that the much smaller ghurka trooper would be helpless. instead the ghurka broke his nose and when the marine let go came up swinging with his kukri. if it wasnt' for the body armour the marine would have been dead as it was he had over 600 stitches put in. posted by a fellow who said he was a usmc officer over on military.com

yes it is a theory that poisonous snakes forced us to look more carefully and we evolved to have better vision. is a dumb theory. good bino vision we had so our ancestors hit the branches when jumping. kept it up when we learned to throw rocks at dinners to be etc.

Herc the Merc    Quality -of Indian manpower in question-S-2??   8/5/2006 2:10:06 PM
Laughable --I am assuming ur living in the US, gander down to ur neighbourhood university and check into any graduate engineering class as a visiting student. Then lets talk. Its training S-2 and Indians or Americans or Croations can be #1 if they work for it, its ur assertion and myth that US & IDF is a cut above-no longer true on the ground or in the University computer science class. Catch up -as Iraq slips away a lot of other things will change, your suggestions of Iraq war suggest ur not realistic--thats dangerous--it is just a critique about folks in general not an attack ok. Did u know that the crazy Iranians that we think they are may have actually engineered the Iraq war--by planting Chalabi to leak WMD stories and manipulating US in the ground war(THis was in FOX news last night--not my theory) and getting us to get rid of Saddam for them so they can then screw us out of there and put in their Shia proxies. How s that for battle tactics??? Now whats ur Bionic soldier gonna do for u here to control the street. How is the mighty US Army and IDF gonna win here---??? Lets take airpower out---(no question we rule the skies).

Do you read your posts before sending? It would save a considerable amount of peripheral, convoluted, and incoherant rantings from reaching our eyes, and would be appreciated by others, I'm sure. "...your suggestions of Iraq war suggest ur not realistic..." Would you care to expand on this suggestion? I'm a bit confused as to what you are referring, exactly. Particularly in light of this discussion. In general, my bone of contention with you boils down to this- you may be right about the Indian infantry, in spite of yourself. It certainly isn't the fault of the Indian Army if you are incapable of elucidating the reasons for their excellence. How the IDF or American infantry might be relevant is equally curious. I assume you've already made this grand, sweeping assertion of Indian Army excellence vis-a-vis the IDF based upon our latest spat in Lebanon? Privy to the after action reviews being conducted by the IDF, are you? That would certainly identify you as a seriously "in the know" player! Short of that access, however, one might wonder exactly upon how you've reached your conclusions about Israeli ground forces. In general, the same would apply for U.S. ground forces. I confess to becoming thoroughly befuddled while reading your Chalabi Farsi-machiavellian strategic manipulation theory as "battle tactics" applicable for an infantry force, much less your assertion's greater worth. In short, whatever your suggesting occurred or didn't, it sure doesn't have ANY bearing upon the life of an infantryman. Amusing.
