These are pointless lists. Each country has their own specials, each country has done well from what we've heard. The US does not have all SF areas covered, that's why they were in Australia making unofficial comments for some SAS in Afgan. Also for those who say our SAS only play in the desert or bush; although I'm not SAS, we do a good amount of cold weather ops in the snow, and we do play with US, UK etc. on their turf.

Its easier to ignore these things. Most people have no idea that the Aust SASr play with various scandinavian specforces, Jaegers etc.. We also do "distressed condition" exchanges with more than the US/UK/NZ. At a certain level the competency levels are either similar - or they're duds. You're either part of the "A" team or part of the "B" team. ;) Besides, it's absolutely irrelevant what anyone thinks about these pecker competitions. It's the capability of the blokes in the game that counts, and they are far from being interested in what anyone thinks outside of firecamp discussions. ;)

What about a different slant? What Elite Infantry makes for the better Special Forces? The Parachute Regiment (obviously) or the Royal Marines (a bit wet behind the ears) Your thoughts are welcome. Although it isn’t much of a discussion…

I'm not going anywhere near this one. :) How about the fact that RM's are better adapted for SBS work? ;)

Aside from commenting that Rangers train in mountain, desert and swamp conditions, I think I'll take a pass on this too.

>>which has what to do with the SF guys not being able to hack running about the mtns? i mean it's very nice these guys are experts at mountain rescues etc but it's an apples and oranges thing.<< Pararescuemen are a SOCOM (AFSOC, specifically) asset, and they receive combat and weapons training as well as their medical and other rescue skills. I will reiterate, therefore, that Alaska National Guard (some of whom are weekend warriors, and not full-timers), who belong to the US special operations community, can outclimb anyone the Indian Army is likely to find, in any alpine environment you'd care to name, as Denali is quite a bit more savage than the Himalayas due to its actic latitude. Note, again, that I'm saying our reserve-component SOCOM assets can beat anyone in the Indian Army. Any further requests for clarification?

GF, I can jump out of an air craft and I have 500m swimming badge! I mean, I have never used a canoe, but I have been on many water rapid rides at theme parks. That’s the same thing right? Surely all that would over qualify me for the SBS? Who said rivalry was a bad thing ; ) Ok, I’ll admit it, the Royal Marines are (marginally) better at Artic warfare, but I don’t think we’re going to war with Norway anytime soon.

is that in order? if so then NZ over Australia, i know this is personal preference but NZ over aus in anything is bad enough (and rare enough), its an outrage.
