Subject: expanding rod warhead other applications

could it be applied as a frag grenade ? a claymore? a grenade with the weight concentrated at the bottom and an expanding rod warhead round its midrif- thus the frags should come out parallel with the ground. a claymore where the frags would stay more concentrated and not pepper the sky or the ground so much

You might design a system which deploys a pattern of them into the middle of a JORN farm or similar.  But the technology is too heavy for a practical claymore replacement or grenade unless there is a filler with scary velocity out there.  In addition as the rods rotate they're going to miss a lot of space which your infantry targets may occupy.  It was a good concept for its original purpose back in the day but since has been superceded.
