Thailand: Hezbollah Comes And Goes

Archives

January 23, 2012: Iran backed Lebanese Islamic terror group, Hezbollah, has been found to have a support operation in Thailand. While local Jewish targets had been studied, Hezbollah was apparently using Thailand mainly as a place to obtain money, weapons, and equipment and then move this stuff to other countries for terror attacks. Hezbollah has long been known to maintain this network, which has branches in South America and Africa, as well as Asia. Thailand has long been a place where criminals could base themselves, as long as they did not cause any problems locally.

The government is still having problems recruiting teachers to work in the majority Moslem three southern provinces. In the last eight years 155 teachers have been murdered by Islamic terrorists down there. More police and troops were sent, many to specifically guard teachers.  As a result, the teacher deaths have been reduced to one or two a year and no schools have been closed in the last year because of the Islamic terror attacks. The Islamic terrorists see non-religious schools as particularly dangerous, despite the popularity of these schools with Moslem parents and children.

Some 5,000 people have been killed by Islamic terror operations in the south over the last eight years.  Today, a village headman was shot by an Islamic death squad. Increasingly, the Islamic terrorism is being turned on local Moslems, in order to compel support for the terrorists.

January 21, 2012: In the south, six marines were wounded in an ambush by Islamic terrorists.

January 13, 2012: Israel and the United States warned their citizens to avoid Thailand because of the danger of Islamic terror attacks. Israeli and American intelligence warned their Thai counterparts in late December that an Islamic terrorist cell was in Thailand and planning a bombing there in mid-January. Subsequently, Thai police arrested a Lebanese man associated with Hezbollah who was traveling on a Swedish passport. The man had moved to Sweden in 1991 but returned to Lebanon in 2003 for three years. A second man was identified but he had already left the country. Police then found four tons of explosives owned by the Hezbollah man they had in custody. The Hezbollah man admitted that an attack was planned in Thailand but was aborted when the Thai government began hunting for the two Hezbollah men.

January 6, 2012: In the south two local defense volunteers were killed and three wounded when gunmen attacked a factory they were guarding.
