Nepal: Maoists Drowning In Their Own Revolution

October 31, 2007: Maoist demands that the monarchy be abolished have backfired. The political parties agreed to give it a shot, and brought the issue to parliament. But there aren't enough votes there to get it done. Meanwhile, most of the violence is down south, where the ethnic Indian groups along the border continue to battle police, Maoists and each other. Maoist radicals (younger rebels, often disobeying their elders) are not numerous enough to overwhelm the many other radical groups that are now in play. The Maoists began a revolution, but are now in danger of drowning in it.
