: Australia has selected two final bidders to replace the combat computer systems on its Collins-class submarines: Raytheon and Atlas. The US is heavily pressuring the Australians to pick Raytheon, but a new report suggests that the Atlas system (while somewhat less capable) might have less technological risk. The US has indicated that it won't allow Atlas access to secret US systems that it would need to construct a new combat system, so Atlas has brought Lockheed Martin into its team to control the US black box technology.--Stephen V Cole
