The International Space Station (ISS) will have to be abandoned unless the US gives Russia $47 million for building new space capsules and launching them to resupply the ISS and send up relief crews. Leaving the ISS unmanned could lead to it's destruction. For example, recently there was a malfunction in the heat regulation system in one (US made) module that could not have been fixed remotely. The US is resisting paying Russia because of a dispute over Russian support for Iran's nuclear power program (which is seen as a nuclear weapons program.)
