Youd think that rich drug lords would simply buy the boats they needed for their drug smuggling operations. Usually, but not always. FARC a rebel army turned drug producing and smuggling operation in Colombia, had one of its Pacific coast bases, near the port of Buenaventura, raided by the army. There was found two speedboats under construction. Such boats are used to evade navy patrols and move cocaine up the coast to Panama and points north. FARC is actually a private army, with over 10,000 armed fighters, and thousands more in support positions. Including, it seems, some boat builders. Colombian drug gangs had previously been caught, twice, building submarines as well.
