Nepal has bought 5,000 M-16 rifles for $920 each. In addition, the US is giving Nepal another 8,000 M-16s as military assistance. So far, 11,000 of the 13,000 M-16s have been delivered. Nepal is battling a rebellion by self-described Maoist communists and is arming thousands of additional paramilitaries to fight the rebels.
