The JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) program continues to be in danger of cancellation. The U.S. plans to buy 2,852 (1,763 for the Air Force to replace some F-16s and A-10s, 480 for the navy to replace some F-18s and 609 for the marines to replace AV-8 Harriers. Everyone is playing it safe, planning on keeping their existing aircraft up to date and capable of serving for years to come. The Harrier, for example, has been upgraded so that it can keep flying until 2022.
