Canada has lost interest in a plan under which the US would help pay for six C-17s for the Canadian Air Force, which would loan them to the US Air Force whenever it didn't need them. The details of this deal, including the idea that the US would loan Canada its own aircraft if Canada needed C-17s and the Canadian C-17s were in a remote area on a USAF mission, had become too complex. Instead, the Canadians have indicated that on a case-by-case basis they would consider "undertaking specific airlift tasks" for the USAF (presumably for a fee).--Stephen V Cole
