Italian Armaments Minister Alberto Zigunani said in a recent interview that if all European nations did not agree to buy common European-built weapons by 2007, the European defense industry would be overwhelmed by huge American contractors. Most nations prefer to buy the cheapest and most effective weapons, and due to vast American production runs, the highly effective US weapons are usually cheaper than anything built in Europe. --Stephen V Cole
