The Russian Armed Forces logistics support department met their 2002 target figures ahead of schedule, for the summertime delivery of supplies to army units and border pickets across northern Russia. They moved a total of 332.5 million tons of fuel, lubricants, materiel, food and medicine to Arctic military garrisons during the window opportunity where the weather actually allows strategic movement.

The ability to keep units in remote regions properly supplied one of those never-ending challenges for all armies. While the Russians have been maintaining Artic posts for decades and do a laudable job, their logisticians remain fascinated with the American effort during Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1990-1991). - Adam Geibel
