The US Navy, always known for having the lowest physical fitness standards among US forces, has toughened its physical standards. For example, it used to take 45 pushups in two minutes for a 35-year-old man to get an outstanding rating; it now takes 74. Navy brass complain that the new "Army like" standards have their officers sneaking away from their desks to hit the gym.--Stephen V Cole
