Australia's second contingent of Special Air Services Regiment arrived in Afghanistan in early April and was preparing for action, according to a 9 April statement by the Australian Defence Force spokesman Lieutenant Colonel David Tyler. Colonel Tyler would not reveal the exact size of the second group or where they were based, but they were estimated to be the same size and be engaged in operations similar to the first contingent.

During Operation Anaconda, two Australian SAS teams were instrumental in keeping the American force on "Robert's Ridge" alive on 3-4 March, calling in air strikes throughout the time they were pinned down by swarms of Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters. - Adam Geibel
