American scientists have bred a bacterial enzyme that destroys the ability of nerve gas to injure or kill. The enzyme has been tested on Soman, one of the more common nerve gases. The enzyme is being modified to operate more quickly, and it's expected the enzyme could be used in gas mask filters, and to clean up areas that have been contaminated by nerve gas.
