Artillery: March 25, 2002

Archives

Three companies (Denel of South Africa, Soltam of Israel, and Bofors of Sweden) have turned in bids for India's artillery requirement. The Indians want to buy 200 new towed 155mm howitzers, and then build up to 3,800 more under license. These will re-equip 200 artillery battalions (18 guns each) which now use various artillery systems, mostly of Soviet manufacture.--Stephen V Cole
