Brunei is evaluating bids from two British companies (Alvis and Repaircraft) to refit its fleet of 16 Scorpion light tanks (plus two Sultan command vehicles and one Samson repair vehicle, which use the same chassis). The heart of the upgrade is a new engine. Alvis is offering the same Cummins diesel which is being installed in British Scorpions. Repaircraft is offering a choice of an Austrian Steyr diesel or a similar engine that produces less heat. Any of the three engines will produce more power and speed for less fuel, and weigh considerably less.--Stephen V Cole
