Thailand has received the first of five F-16As taken from storage in the US and refurbished to Thai standards. These are attrition replacement aircraft; Thailand bought 36 F-16As and Bs during 1988-96. Nearby Malaysia plans to buy eighteen F-18E/Fs for $1.5 billion, including radars, engines, weapons, and spare parts.--Stephen V Cole
