Homeland Security- The Bush Administration has invoked new rules that will require tougher background checks for airport and federal employees with access to the most critical areas, such as flight control centers. The US Navy has cancelled its annual air show at Patuxent River Naval Air Station (originally set for 26-28 September) due to cost (the air show account was looted to fund the War on Terror) and security concerns (large crowds are a tempting target, and striking directly at the US military would make it doubly so).--Stephen V Cole
