The trial of Ahmed Ressam, the Algerian arrested last December near Seattle, will be held in Los Angeles instead of Seattle. Ressam's attorney's argued that because the alleged bomb plot targeted civilians in Seattle and caused cancellation of New Year's celebrations, a fair trial could not be held there. Another reason for the move is that the Los Angeles courthouse was remodeled in 1992 for improved security, including a tunnel connecting it to the Federal detention center. The Seattle courthouse lacks advanced security as would be needed in a terrorist trial.--Stephen V Cole
