Uganda: March 11, 2003

Archives

About 50 Ugandan villagers were burned to death or shot in a six-hour cattle raid attack by about 1,000 raiders from Kenya's Pokot tribe, who crossed into eastern Uganda about 210 kilometers northeast of the capital. Ugandans aren't the only targets of lawless elements of the Pokot - a local Kenya politician's convoy was attacked by 12 bandits and only beat off after a fierce firefight. - Adam Geibel
