The LTTE has pulled it's unarmed staff out of urban areas of eastern Sri Lanka where it does not have military control. This is because of the increasing attacks by dissident LTTE fighters. The LTTE believes that these dissidents are backed by the army, which is probably true to some extent. In reaction to the July 10th attack, there were at least eight LTTE attacks on army and police.
