Ethnic violence between Yoruba and Hausa street gangs has broken out in the capital. The police appear unable to suppress the violence. The national police strike ended when the government came up with money for back pay, and threatened to punish the strikers. The US and Britain are sending bomb disposal teams to deal with the munitions lying all over neighborhoods bordering an army base in the capital that suffered a munitions dump explosion.
