The three main warlord factions (former president John Taylor's forces, plus the LURD and MODEL rebel groups) have officially disbanded. Nearly 100,000 former members of these groups have presented themselves for official demobilization (and payment from a $50 million fund established for this.) Although some 26,000 weapons have been turned in, many warlords are still in business, and are scamming the peacekeepers. Warlords send in individuals with worn out weapons, or the minimum number of bullets (150) to qualify for a demobilization payment. The warlords then take most of the money. It is believed that thousands of the newest weapons are being held back, and when the peacekeepers leave, the warlords will be back in business.
