Liberia: January 30, 2001

Archives

Fighting continues on the area where the borders of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau meet. Liberia tolerates rebels from both nations, who set up camp in Liberia and raid into the neighboring nations. Guinea Bissau has been making attacks into Liberia to try and deal with the rebels. The Liberian government has made deals with the rebels and gotten involved in the diamond and arms trade. The UN is putting pressure on Liberia to stop supporting the rebels, but so far Liberia's response have been words, not deeds. Liberia even refuses to get involved in the fighting on its own border areas.
