In the past year, the number of U.S. military personnel serving in Kuwait has gone from 4,000 to 8,000 troops. About 2,000 of them are in Camp Doha, a port facility 30 kilometers north of Kuwait City. Others are in Jarrah, which is 60 kilometers from the Iraq border. American troops and facilities are also showing up, quietly, in the smaller Gulf states like Oman and Bahrain.
