The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas reported that Iraq was using a Russian-built device capable of jamming the GPS system and distracting US aircraft and precision-guided bombs. The newspaper said that the device was built by the Russian company Aviakonversiya, something that the company confirms. The Kuwaiti newspaper said that Russian nationalist leader Vladimir Zhironovsky (who frequently visits Iraq and is said to be a personal chum of Saddam Hussein) had delivered the devices, but the company denied that Iraq or Zhironovsky had tried to buy any of these devices.--Stephen V Cole
