Due to a popular uprising in Lebanon, the Iranian government said that some 2,000 troops serving in Lebanon had come home. Only about fifty Revolutionary Guards remained, to work with the Hizbollah terrorist organization. Iran has been providing money, weapons and troops for Shia Arabs in Lebanon (where they are a third of the population, and often persecuted by the Sunni and Christian majority) since 1982.
