The government has put pressure on Arab language new service al Jazeera, to ease up on reporting of poor living conditions for  Arab-Iranians. Only about half the Iranian populations are ethnic Iranians, the rest are various other minorities, including Arabs, Afghans, Kurds, Baluchs and Turks. The Afghans, Baluchs and Kurds are ethnically related to Iranians, with similar language and customs, but the Arabs and Turks are very different, and comprise about a third of the population.
